Psychology Facilities

We offer a wide range of modern facilities to support students in their work including an Observation Studio, Observation Laboratory, Test Library, Experimental Psychology Laboratory, Applied Psychology Laboratory and a Psychology Learning and Teaching Laboratory.

The Department of Psychology provides students with the use of a number of dedicated specialist and flexible teaching laboratories for both practical work and to support students in their studies. These labs are used for timetabled teaching sessions, project work and are also available for students to use for private study. Eighteen cubicles associated with the Experimental Psychology Lab are available for students to book in conjunction with specialist equipment for project research work, whilst the student hub offers the opportunity for independent work supported by an ‘honesty’ library and equipment to facilitate the preparation and rehearsal of oral and poster presentations.

The Department's research facilities provide the focus for the extensive portfolio of internationally recognised research undertaken by our staff and research students.  The Brain, Performance and Nutrition Research Centre comprises four testing labs equipped with touch screen computers for cognitive testing. Wet lab facilities allow the monitoring of a wide range of physiological markers, and two Near Infrared Spectroscopy (NIRS) systems and a Trans-cranial Doppler system facilitate the non-invasive monitoring of cerebral blood flow and proxies for brain metabolism.

The Psychology Research Hub comprises a number of flexible research spaces including state of the art Eye tracking and EEG teaching and research labs, and a Psychophysiology lab.

The Department also has an extensive collection of psychological testing material to support student and staff research. The collection includes current editions of most of the widely used group and individual tests and a wide range of tests for neuropsychological and clinical assessment, intellectual and developmental assessment and occupational and vocational testing.
