The Academy of Human Resource Development has recognised Professor Jamie Callahan from ϲ’s Newcastle Business School, as Outstanding HRD Scholar for 2020.
Carrying significant prestige within the sector and among peers internationally, the award is presented to an outstanding human resource development scholar who has demonstrated a continuing record of scholarly productivity and influence in the profession. Adding to the achievement, Professor Callahan has also just been named an incoming Co-Editor for the influential .
Commenting on her recognition by the Academy of HRD Professor Callahan said: “I am really delighted and honoured to be joining this group of esteemed scholars. I want to sincerely thank Professor Carole Elliott from Sheffield University for nominating me and I give my thanks to Dr. Mina Beigi at the University of Southampton and Professor Laura Bierema at the University of Georgia for supporting my nomination. Canadian suffragette Nellie McClung once said that “women are going to form a chain, a greater sisterhood than the world has ever known”. Thank you for linking together to form a chain to support me.
“In the words of WB Yeats, education is not the filling of a bucket, but the lighting of a fire. This is also very much how I feel about scholarship. I hope that in some small way my teaching and research will serve to light a fire for others.”
Professor Callahan joined the Academy of HRD in 1995 as a doctoral student, and has attended the organisation’s Conference in the Americas ever since. She added: “I cannot imagine a year without AHRD. This is my academic home, the source of my scholarly identity, and my well of dear friends.
Professor John Wilson, Pro Vice-Chancellor for the Faculty of Business and Law at Northumbria added: “This award by the Academy of HRD is a fitting and well-deserved accolade for Professor Callahan and I congratulate her on the achievement, and the international recognition it brings. I am also delighted that she has been named a co-editor for the International Journal of Management Reviews. It is one of the leading journals in our field, with considerable impact and the highest ranking outside of the US. On both counts these are measures of individual success and a reflection of the academic strength we have here at Northumbria and Newcastle Business School.”
