Dr Maggie Coates

Assistant Professor

Department: Nursing, Midwifery & Health

I am a registered Adult Nurse, Children's Nurse, and Specialist Community Public Health Nurse (Health Visitor) with a varied NHS career spanning almost 17 years. I am an experienced academic in the Department of Nursing, Midwifery, and Health. As Assistant Professor, I am Head of Subject for various programmes that advance healthcare practice and require Professional Statutory Regulatory Body Standards (PSRBs). My current role as an Assistant Professor involves learning and teaching and research. I lead and deliver learning and teaching across several PSRB programmes for example Specialist Community Public Health Nursing and Specialist Practice Qualifications, as well as a range of Continuous Professional Development programmes.

I completed my PhD in 2022 which focused on interpreting the interaction between parents and health visitors around infant weight in the context of childhood obesity and delivery of the Healthy Child Programme. I am a senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy. I have recently published and I am an active researcher.
