Dr Tin Doan

Assistant Professor

Department: Newcastle Business School

I have dedicated my career to inspiring and supporting students in their pursuit of success. My personal experience has shown me the transformative power of education, and I am passionate about sharing that with others. The British Academy of Management - Education Practice Award for Early Career Category is a great honour for my dedication to education.

My research is focused on Equality, Diversity, and Inclusivity and the social sustainable impact in the Hospitality and Tourism industry. With extensive experience in advanced international education, I have been fortunate to receive prestigious scholarships from governments around the world, including Australia, New Zealand, and the United States.

My academic journey has taken me to Portland State University in the US, where I participated in the Sustainable Development Scholar Exchange program. From there, I pursued a Master of Tourism Management degree at Monash University in Australia. I then completed my PhD research on Disability Inclusion in Hospitality at the Auckland University of Technology in New Zealand.

Throughout my academic career, I have worked in leadership roles at luxury resorts and community-based tourism projects in Vietnam. In addition, I have served as a principal consultant for organizations such as UNESCO, ILO, and UNDP on various training and research projects. My research papers have been published in top-tier journals, including the International Journal of Hospitality Management, the International Journal of Contemporary Hospitality Management, the Journal of Hospitality and Tourism Research, the Journal of Hospitality Marketing and Management, and the Cornell Hospitality Quarterly.

I am also committed to contributing to research projects in Australia and New Zealand, such as the Professional Chefs Wellbeing and Mental Health, the New Zealand Tourism Workforce, and Inclusive Auckland Events. Moving forward, I am excited to collaborate and supervise research projects in HRM, Social Sustainability, and Diversity, Equality, and Inclusion, using a mix of research methods to provide a holistic approach to these critical issues.
