Dr Alan Godfrey

Associate Professor

Department: Computer and Information Sciences

Dr Godfrey is lead for his departments Digital Health & Wellbeing research group. He was UoA11 Deputy lead for REF2021. He is Head of Degree Apprenticeships for his Department. He received his BEng in electronic engineering and PhD in biomedical electronics from the University of Limerick, Ireland. He also holds the MBA from Newcastle University. 

His major research is in algorithms for data science and analytics in healthcare. This includes areas of artificial intelligence, machine learning, data mining and multidimensional signal processing. He has published over 100 papers on those topics in various engineering and medical journals from a portfolio of translational-based research. He serves as Deputy Editor for , Editor for  and Associate Editor for . He is an International Advisory board member for .

Dr Godfrey is a Member of the Institution Engineering Technology (MIET) and Senior Member of the Institution of Electrical and Electronic Engineering (SMIEEE). He is a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (FHEA).
