Daniel Goodricke

Assistant Professor

Department: Architecture and Built Environment

Daniel is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Architecture and Built Environment at ϲ. As an industry-facing architect-academic, he contributes to creative practice research, research-informed teaching and policy engagement.

Working at the intersections of academia and industry, his teaching, research and practice spans interests in the design of children’s spaces, collaborative practice with creative and cultural sector organisations and architecture education including promoting alternative routes into the profession.

Daniel’s current research, in collaboration with Seven Stories: The National Centre for Children’s Books and initially funded by the UKRI AHRC, explores children and young peoples interactions at multiple scales; from the book, to the archive and the city, and develops sets of ideas for increasing access to their collections.

Daniel leads the first year of the Architect (Level 7) Degree Apprenticeship, as well as teaching across second and third years, coordinates the End Point Assessment (DA7017) and manages admissions.  He is also co-author of the Architecture Apprenticeship Handbook (2024, RIBA Publishing), intended to demystify this route into the profession for learners and practices, and help them to succeed.

He also coordinates the third-year Professional Practice stream of the BA (Hons) Architecture and BA (Hons) Interior Architecture degrees, working with an extensive professional network of architecture and built environment professionals to enrich academic curriculum and ensure preparedness for entry into professional practice.

At the university level, Daniel serves as an internal panel member for University Approvals Panels (UAP) and is a trained mentor and reviewer for Higher Education Academy (HEA) claims at Associate (AFHEA), Fellow (FHEA) and Senior Fellow (SFHEA) descriptors as part of ϲ's Professional Recognition Scheme (NUPRS).

Daniel is a Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (SFHEA), member of the RIBA Validation Panel and RIBA New Courses Group, and has more recently chaired visiting boards to UK and international schools of architecture. He has acted as an external examiner to the undergraduate degrees in architecture at London South Bank University and the University of Bath, and postgraduate degree in architecture at the Mackintosh School of Architecture, Glasgow School of Art.  He has also acted as an industry specialist to the latter in support of curriculum reforms.

Daniel is a Registered Architect with the Architects Registration Board (ARB) and a Chartered Member of the Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA).
