Dr William Guariento

Assistant Professor

Department: Humanities

I joined the English Language team at ϲ in June 2020, and am keen to continue my research in the areas of identity, social justice, and intercultural competences.  I have a specific interest in the development of pluriliteracies for language learners, and in exploring telecollaborative project-work with non-traditional overseas partner institutions.  My PhD thesis (2019): Pre-sessional English language courses: university telecollaboration as a driver of Global North / South student-contact for engineers, grew from these combined interests, as have several of my publications.  My role as a CELTA trainer / assessor will I hope be of particular value to the students at ϲ, and I am really enjoying my teaching on the BA and MA programmes here.

I am interested in the intersections between power, identity, social justice, and intercultural competences.  I have a specific interest in exploring telecollaborative project-work with non-traditional overseas partner institutions; my PhD thesis, Pre-sessional English language courses: university telecollaboration as a driver of Global North/South student-contact for engineers, grew from these combined interests, as have several of my publications.  My role as a CELTA trainer / assessor allows me to combine theory and practice, and teacher-education is an area I am keen to develop.
