Dr Lucia Rehackova

Assistant Professor

Department: Nursing, Midwifery & Health

Lucia is an Assistant Professor in Health and Social Care Research in the Department of Nursing and Midwifery. She has twelve years of experience in development and evaluation of interventions aimed at supporting the health of people and the environment.

Her research spans the themes of health behaviours (eating, weight management, active travel), long-term conditions (type 2 diabetes), mental health (shared decision-making), sustainability (food-shopping, land use), and health policy (integrated care systems).

Lucia finished her PhD and the first few years of her postdoctoral studies at Newcastle University, where she led the multiple-method evaluation of a £2.5 million diabetes remission clinical trial known as , amongst other projects related with active travel and food shopping. After this, she gained experience as a Knowledge Transfer Partnership Associate at Southampton University, where she supported the translation of an evidence-based weight management intervention into an app, currently used by the NHS. Before joining ϲ as a research fellow in 2022, she supported the evaluation of the at London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine.

At Northumbria, Lucia coordinates a co-production of a decision aid to support person-centred decision making about digital mental health support choices. She is interested in systems thinking, and the role of communities in supporting peoples’ wellbeing and sustainable development.
