Dr Pauline Ramshaw

Associate Professor

Department: Social Sciences

Prior to joining Northumbria in 2017, Pauline worked as a Senior Lecturer in Criminology at Teesside University (2000-2017).  She specialises in developing innovative programmes of learning and teaching to meet the needs of professional policing organisations on a national and international level.  This work included the first Foundation Degree in Police Studies for newly recruited police officers in Cleveland Police in 2004, followed by a Foundation Degree in Professional Policing in 2005 with West Mercia Constabulary.  In 2007 she provided consultancy and mentoring to colleagues at the Kigali Institute of Education, the National University of Rwanda, and the Rwandan National Police.  Pauline is currently the Director of Education for Degree Apprenticeships in the Department of Social Sciences, and works closely with Northumbria Police and Durham Constabulary on the delivery of their Police Constable Degree Apprenticeships and Degree Holder Entry Programmes. Her research around policing has been published in peer-review journals including Policing and Society, International Journal of Police Science and Management, and Police Practice and Research. An International Journal.

Pauline’s research interests relate mostly to front line policing and include issues of gender and policing, organizational change, culture and leadership, and volunteering in the Police Service.
