Dr Edmond Sanganyado

Assistant Professor

Department: Applied Sciences

Edmond Sanganyado received a B.Sc. (Hons) in Applied Chemistry, from the National University of Science and Technology, Bulawayo, Zimbabwe (2008) and a Ph.D. in Environmental Toxicology from the University of California, Riverside, USA (2016) where he was a Fulbright Fellow. He is presently an Assistant Professor in Forensic Science in the Department of Applied Sciences at ϲ, Newcastle upon Tyne, UK where he continues his work on assessing the fate, transport, and toxicity of emerging contaminants in the environment. Edmond is involved in many international collaborations, including the EU‐funded . He is a Fellow of both the Institution of Environmental Sciences and the Higher Education Academy and an editor for and .

Edmond Sanganyado

Edmond is interested in understanding the impact of chemical contaminants on environmental and human health. His research develops and employs advanced analytical techniques and molecular biology approaches to assess the health risk associated with exposure to complex chemical mixture and multiple stressors. He investigates how chemodynamics influences external and internal exposure, bioaccumulation, and adverse health effects, particularly in aquatic ecosystems.

Edmond Sanganyado studies the environmental chemistry and toxicology of chemical contaminants in the environment environments. His primary research areas include:

  • Environmental fate, transport, and uptake of chemical contaminants in the environment
  • Bioaccumulation of chemical contaminants in marine mammals
  • Method development for environmental organic contaminant analysis
  • Mitigation of chemical contaminant risks in the environment
  • Linking chemical exposure to adverse health effects in humans and the environment

  • Education PGCHE January 31 2024
  • Education PGCHE July 30 2018
  • Environmental Science and other Physical Science PhD June 10 2016
  • Chemistry BSc (Hons) May 31 2008
  • Member of the Royal Society of Chemistry MRSC 2022
  • Fellow of the Institution of Environmental Sciences FIEnvSc 2021
