Mark Telford

Assistant Professor

Department: Nursing, Midwifery & Health

Mark Telford Assistant Professor (Practice) Children, Young People’s Nursing and Specialist Community Public Health Nursing.

Mark is a Registered Children and Young Peoples Nurse, Nurse Teacher as well as Specialist Community Public Health Nurse (Health Visiting) with the Nursing & Midwifery Council (NMC), UK. 

He initially completed a Diploma in Children’s Nursing at Bede, Newcastle, and Northumbria School of Nursing in 1993. In 1996, Mark completed his BSc (Hons) in Specialist Community Public Health Nursing (Health Visiting) at ϲ.  In 2010 he completed his MSc (Hons) in Integrated Service Improvement at the University of Teesside. In 2014 he completed his Post Graduate Diploma in Professional Practice Education at ϲ and became a Fello of The Higher Education Academy.

Mark has held several clinical and academic roles over a career lasting over 30 years. Key projects include. Developing the Community Children’s Nursing Service for children with life limiting and life-threatening illnesses. Being the Health Co-Ordinator for a wave 3 SureStart programme. Senior management within both Health and Social Care organisations for services delivered to Children and Young People. Programme Leader for both the BSc (Hons) in Children’s Nursing and BSc (Hons)/PGDip SCPHN.

In July 2024, Mark returned to ϲ as a Lecturer prior to migrating to becoming an Assistant Professor (Practice).   Since joining ϲ, Mark has held several Faculty and Department Leaderships positions including module lead for children’s nursing and SCPHN and programme lead for return to practice (Nursing and Midwifery).  As part of the wider team, Mark has supported the development of children's nursing at ϲ, leading to the programme being placed as number 2 and in the Guardian League Tables for Children's Nursing provision (2024). 

His research and scholarly interests are: interprofessional working, leadership, digitalisation, safeguarding children, and public health.
