Professor Tony Ward

Tony Ward joined Northumbria in 2016 having previously worked at the University of Hull and De Montfort University Leicester. His interests as a legal scholar focus on the law of evidence and in particular expert evidence, including historical and philosophical perspectives on experts. He is also a criminologist specialising in state crime. i.e. violence and corruption by governments and officials. He is Co-Director of the International State Crime Initiative and one of the Editors-in-Chief of its journal State Crime. He is co-author with Penny Green of State Crime: Governments, Violence and Corruption (Pluto 2004) and State Crime and Civil Activism (Routledge, 2019), and with Gerry Johnstone of Law and Crime (Sage 2010)
